Theme:
loss of innocence
affects on a soldier (war)
brotherhood/ alone
While reading chapter 6 when the recruit ran out of his position and got blowed up by the shell the image showed is really similar what I had imagine in my head. The reason why the recruit ran out of his position was he couldn't take the Sulfur fumes which is poisonous gas so he panicked and ran for air which is really ironic. The solider running away from the gas to save his life ends up getting killed anyways. This shows a good imagery in the book on how bad it was when you get attacked by gas and affects you, the other recruit was going mental and was head butting himself against a wall. Their is a contrast between affects on the soldier of the war in this image and the book itself because the image just shows someone getting blowed up. There is a similarity of brotherhood showing in the image he dies alone and in brotherhood you have a very strong bond that you will do whatever it takes to save you comrade. In this case Paul could of followed this recruit that was panicking and rushed out to rescue him but instead he stayed instead and that shows a little bit of lack of brother in both text types. I would say that their is a loss of innocence in both of the text types, as you can see in the picture you see the man getting blowed up the man taking cover would realized how cruel the world is and becomes wiser from that. As in the book the recruit probably lost his innocence and couldn't believe it, I would guess he didn't only run away from the gas itself but also from the world.

I like how you mentioned irony.
